Artistic Statement
My best artworks capture notions of the things that inspire me. Music from Debussy to Bjork, flowers in my backyard, rocks on the coast of New England, drives at dusk with the windows down are a few of my favorite examples. To hold onto the impressions I receive, I absorb or imagine the particulars of the object, music, place, or occasion. Then carefully consider the subjects and forms to symbolize my ideas and feelings. I create drawings and paintings employing the concrete qualities of unswerving observation and the uniqueness and mystery of abstraction and expression. I use charcoal, ink, acrylic, oil, or collage, to form lines, colors, shapes and spaces, building layers that embrace fleeting experiences and sensations.
