The Foundry for Art Design + Culture is located in historic downtown Cohoes NY, and is being completed in part by three granting opportunitiesa NYS Main Street Grant and two Small Cities Community Development Block Grants, each through the City of Cohoes.
In recent years, the City of Cohoes has made many efforts to revitalize it's historic neighborhoods through providing many granting opportunities for its community members. Each of the granting programs have a strong focus on providing funds to business improvement districts and other not-for-profit organizations that are committed to revitalizing historic downtowns, mixed-use neighborhood commercial districts, and village centers.
In mid-2005 The Foundry principals purchased the Cohoes property, a former bank with the vision of creating an environment to promote the value of art, design and culture in building a unique sense of place in our region. Utilizing a sophisticated design approach, with an emphasis on historic preservation, the project will modernize the structure while exalting the past. The property will redefine the arrangement of household, leisure, and work space, and will offer a setting for art which is a clear alternative to institutionalized museums and galleries. Upon completion the property will consist of one 800 sf and one 1800 sf live/work artist lofts designed for professional working artists and a 2100 sf visual and performing arts center.
